Pitt undergrad senior Sarah Dubnik, a Computer Science and Chemistry major, has advanced to the finals of the Collegiate Jeopardy tournament. Sarah will compete for the National Championship on WPXI television (channel 11) this evening at 7PM. Congrats to Sarah!!!

Pitt Senior Computer Science and Chemistry major Sarah Dubnik will appear on the "Jeopardy!" College Championship tonight! Sarah's Quarterfinal Match airs on WPXI at 7pm! This two-week "Jeopardy!" tournament features 15 students competing for $100,000 and a spot in the show's Tournament of Champions! Good Luck Sarah!!


NCWIT Student Seed Fund Awards WiCS $3,000 in Funding!

We are proud to announce that the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) has selected the University of Pittsburgh’s Women in Computer Science (WiCS) group to receive a 2016 NCWIT Student Seed Fund award sponsored by Google.org! WiCS has been awarded $3,000 to support their mission and quest to become an ACM-W Chapter. WiCS is a student organization that focuses on fostering a diversity friendly environment in the field of computer science and other technology-related fields. The NCWIT Student Seed Fund has awarded over $83,000 to more than 100 student-run programs for women in computing at non-profit, U.S. Academic Alliance member institutions nationwide.
This award is given to student groups for women in computing and IT programs that increase women’s confidence, technical skills, and help reduce feelings of isolation, dispel stereotypes, and empower students to actively recruit and mentor other women! This award offers an opportunity for the student group to create an ACM-W chapter. Congratulations to WiCS!

Professors Wang, Menekse, and Litman are collaborating with grad students on an exciting new project, CourseMIRROR! CourseMIRROR improves student-instructor interactions in large-classrooms and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) via mobile interfaces and natural language processing. CourseMIRROR facilitates learning at scale by enabling students to reflect in-situ via mobile devices. It also helps instructors to capture the gist of reflections effectively via natural language processing. CourseMIRROR is free and supports major mobile platforms and PCs.
