Elisabeta Marai (Computer Science) and Professor Kay Nieselt (Bioinformatics, University of Tuebingen) are Program Chairs for the 3rd IEEE Symposium on Biological Data Visualization (BioVis' 13), the premier venue for bioinformatics visualization. BioVis will take place on 13-14 October 2013, in Atlanta, GA as part of the IEEE Visualization Week.

Graduate student Timothy Luciani gave a research presentation titled Large-Scale Overlays and Trends: Visually Mining, Panning and Zooming the Observable Universe at the Allegheny Observatory on July 19, 2013. The presentation introduced joint work with CS undergraduate students Daniel Oliphant and Sean Myers, CS Professors Alexandros Labrinidis and G. Elisabeta Marai, and Dr. Brian Cherinka and Prof. W.
