Professors Panos K. Chrysanthis and Alexandros Labrinidis ,co- directors of The Advanced Data Management Technologies Laboratory, and Professor G. Elisabeta Marai, director of The Interdisciplinary Visualization Research Lab (iVRL) have received a new NSF CDS&E grant, together with colleagues from the School of Engineering and the Center for Simulation and Modeling. The grant is entitled, Data Management and Visualization in Petascale Turbulent Combustion Simulation. This builds upon a history of many other successful collaborations of the ADMT Lab and iVRL, with researchers in the Medical School, and Physics and Astronomy, addressing Big Data challenges.

Professor Bruce Childers organized the successful NSF-sponsored Workshop on a Community Supported Computer Architecture Design and Evaluation Framework. The workshop, held in Arlington, Virginia from May 31-June 1, 2012, engaged the academic community, government and industry to collectively address the need for a community framework allowing interoperability of simulation tools for Computer Architecture.

Professors Panos K. Chrysanthis and Alexandros Labrinidis, directors of the Advanced Data Management Technology Lab, were invited to the inaugural EMC University Day in Boston on June 11, 2012. At this very successful event, Prof. Labrinidis served on the Big Data panel, whereas their PhD students Lory Al Moakar and Thao N Pham participated in the Poster Session. Congratulations to Lory, whose poster finished 3rd in the best poster competition (after CMU and Cornell).
