Dr. Jacob Biehl (Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science, Department of Information Culture and Data Stewardship), Master’s Student Thomas Downes and PhD Student Talha Khan won the Best Paper Award at the IEEE International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality (ISMAR).
They wrote the paper, “Understanding Effects of Visual Feedback Delay in AR on Fine Motor Surgical Tasks,” with Dr. Ted Andrews (Assistant Professor, Department of Neurological Surgery), Lucy Cheng (Medical Student), Nicolas Kass (Medical Student), and Toby Zhu (Medical Student). Downes was an undergraduate computer science student when the paper was authored.
The paper examines the use of augmented reality (AR) in medical settings, particularly in relation to motor task performance and subjective perceptions of end-to-end latency.
